Specialising in group fitness, Angela’s company, Savvy, pioneered commercial outdoor fitness operations in the Illawarra region. In addition to her founding company, she has owned multiple fitness franchise brands, including Anytime Fitness and Orange Theory.
A multi-award-winning businesswoman, Angela was recognised as the first IWIB Young Business Woman of the Year in 2009 and IWIB Business Woman of the Year in 2010. Today, Angela focuses on creating and coordinating Savvy’s programmes, mentoring staff, and fostering a unique team culture that inspires active living and community engagement. Her passion for fitness and community drives her to create meaningful experiences in every session, leading to life-changing results for hundreds of members. At the conference, Angela will share insights on growing a business within the local community, drawing from her extensive experience and deep commitment to the power of movement.
Professor Anthony Okely is a world-leading expert on physical activity and children, dedicated to tackling childhood obesity and profoundly influencing the lives and futures of children, families, and communities globally. Currently a Senior Professor of Public Health at the University of Wollongong, Tony leads pioneering research on physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep in children. His immense scholarly contributions include leading prestigious research projects, and publishing more than 300 highly cited journal articles. Tony’s work has been instrumental in shaping national and international policies, including the World Health Organization Guidelines on Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Sleep for Children Under 5 Years of Age.
At our conference, Professor Okely will focus on the impact of the early introduction to physical activity in children aged 0-5. Drawing on recent research findings, he will discuss the long-term benefits of physical activity for young children and effective strategies for communicating these benefits to parents.
